Mohamed Barakat is a British airline captain who has spent years imprisoned in Kazakhstan after being wrongfully convicted of the death of his one-year-old daughter, Sophia.
On the morning of Sophia’s death in 2019, Mohamed was arrested under chaotic circumstances. Despite the absence of his DNA on the blankets, negative drug and alcohol tests, and multiple contradictions in the forensic reports, he was swiftly convicted. Key evidence was ignored, while alternative explanations and witness testimonies pointing elsewhere were silenced.
This case is not just about one man – it exposes the corruption, abuse of power, and denial of fair trial rights that plague Kazakhstan’s justice system.
Mohamed lost his daughter, his freedom, and his family continues to fight against a system that values extortion and cover-ups over truth.
